Although she had undergone several "cosmetic dental" treatments as well as orthodontics, she had so far been dissatisfied with the results and had come to the conclusion that plastic surgery was her only option.

The Physiology of Jaw Movement

As a person's teeth wear down, misalignment of the teeth and the bite - known as malocclusion - results. The jaw shifts into a less-than-optimal position and lips curl inward, causing them to appear thin and crooked. The entire face appears to collapse and (as you can see from the photo taken of the patient prior to treatment) even the appearance of the eyes can be affected.

Dr. Muslin determined that the best course of action here was to "raise" the patient's bit in such a way that would bring her jaw back into its ideal position, restoring proper occlusion. In reconstructing the biting surfaces, Dr. Muslin used images from a CAT scan as work progressed, ensuring the exact placement of custom made crowns and veneers.

Restored Occlusion Results and a Celebrity Smile

Take another look at the results that were achieved for this patient. The restoration of her dentition and proper occlusion has resulted in a broader smile framed by fuller, more attractive lips, a more symmetrical facial appearance and the look of a woman 20 years younger.

All of this was brought about by merely adding a half inch to the length of her face - the result of dental restoration and proper alignment.
