When our patient first contacted Dr. Muslin, she felt older than her stated years and no longer had a great looking smile. The patient assumed plastic surgery was needed to restore her youthful appearance and create the celebrity smile she wanted.Although she had been treated by other cosmetic dentists in the past, she followed Dr. Muslin's strong recommendation that she undergo reconstructive dentistry first, before considering plastic surgery. Precision dental photography enabled the patient to understand that the cosmetic changes she was seeking would be produced by eliminating the sunken appearance of her smile and provide the underlying structural elements for making her mouth and lips feel fuller and more normal. Normal wear and tear on teeth usually cause shifts in bite and occlusion... and if not monitored can lead to a collapsed or sunken mouth, shifts in the jaw line and smaller thinner lips.In the before photo the patient's mouth and smile is beginning to collapse due to her worn down teeth. Dr. Muslin's treatment plan included "raising" the bite that would have the net effect of restoring normal bite and occlusion and also creating a cosmetic dental facelift.

The final photo shows off the fuller new smile of our Malibu patient. Her lips are fuller and now expose more of her smile.The bite lift (also called vertical dimension) consisted of adding about a half-inch of height to her smile. Her smile no longer has the sunken appearance and now provides support for a very broad smile.
